A Study of Heterotopic Ossification in Spinal Cord Injured People¢¥s

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify possible predictive criteria for heterotopic ossification formation. The subjects were 56 cases with spinal cord injury who were discharged or admitted from Rehabilitation Center Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine, during the period from February 1988 to January 1993.
In order to determine the statistical significance of the results, X-test was applied at the
0.05 level of significance.
The results were as follows:
1. 10 cases of all 56 subjects had heterotopic ossification formation.
2. Completeness of injury, presence of pressure sore, and spasticity were not significantly related to heterotopic ossification formation (P > 0.05).
3. Level of injury, associated injury, duration of onset were significantly related to
heterotopic ossification formation (P < 0.05).
